It is either love or hate when one lives on an alley. However, if everyone practices some simple alley etiquette, it does not have to be a nightmare; one should not feel he/she needs to be the ?“alley police.?” Practicing alley etiquette should also apply to the workmen you hire for any type of work that results in the production of trash (garbage).

?•Manner 1: This is the most important manner of all. PLACE ALL GARBAGE IN THE DUMPSTERS PROVIDED BY THE CITY OF DENVER. If you haven?’t noticed, the only garbage removed regularly is what?’s in the dumpsters.

?•Manner 2: PLACE GARBAGE IN THE DUMPSTER PROVIDED. By breaking down large cardboard boxes and other items and then placing them in the dump-ster, you will make sure the garbage is disappearing weekly, not multiplying.

?•Manner 3 makes others think twice about dumping their garbage in the alley. IF AN ITEM IS TOO BIG FOR THE DUMPSTER, CALL 720-865-6900 FOR SOLID WASTE PICKUP. By having large items and bundled tree branches removed quickly, the alley is kept clean and safe for all, especially children.

?•Manner 4 will help prevent rodent and insect infestations, and provide a healthier environment for all, especially since West Nile is not the disease to get. IF YOU SEE SOMEBODY ELSE?’S GARBAGE SITTING OUTSIDE THE DUMPSTER, AND IT FITS INSIDE, PLEASE PLACE IT IN THE DUMPSTER.

?•Manner 5: IF YOU SEE PILES OF BRANCHES AND LARGE ITEMS COLLECTING IN THE ALLEY, CALL 720-865-6900 FOR PICKUP. The city does not regularly police the alleys for garbage and will appreciate your call.

?•Manner 6 is very simple and requires little effort. BE A GOOD NEIGHBOR. KEEP YOUR TRASH PICKED UP AND DISPOSED OF PROPERLY.

If you see someone illegally dumping, get the license plate number, the make and model of the vehicle and call the police non-emergency number: 720-913-2000. Or call Solid
Waste Removal at 720-865-6900 and they will try to track down the offender.
