News of the Molkery Groundbreaking from Gail Barry

Aug 12, 2003

The ceremony was held on June 17th in Montclair Park. In attendance were Mark Upshaw and other representatives of Denver Parks and Recreation; Tracy Higuera of Public Works; the project manager for the Molkery, Mark Zeigler, of JA Walker Company; Joan Wilson from Hands on Denver, the new building tenant; the architects from Slater Paul, Gary Petri and Lisa Gardener; new and former District 5 City Council reps Marcia Johnson and Polly Flobeck, a number of Montclair neighbors, HMCAI board members and Molkery Committee members. Two members of Denver City Band came and played a little fanfare. Several people spoke and outgoing City Councilwoman Polly Flobeck handed a red-ribboned set of blueprints to the contractor as a sign to begin construction. Refreshments provided by Denver Parks included a cake decorated with the Denver seal and a picture of the Molkery.

As you travel around Montclair Park, please notice the changes in the Molkery. The historic railings (built around 1909-10) are now exposed and the building is looking much as it did ninety years ago. The interior of the building is pretty well gutted. Sewer connection problems are being addressed and all is progressing well. We hope all continues smoothly and we will see the results in the near future.
