Metro parking

Posted in: Miller Heights

a question about WMATA – County policy.

There is an apparent policy to maximize profits from commuter parking that is in direct contradiction to encouraging mass transit.

This is what appears:

The money they make from restricting and eliminating parking is making them more profit at than providing adequate parking.

-          The deal between the WMATA and the police to ticket commuters desperate for parking in the parking garages may yield thousands of dollars of needed income each day.  – No incentive to serve the people there!

-          Metro restricts available space inside the garages unnecessarily (not clear if this is poor planning, or management).

  • Excessive numbers of Reserved spaces.

-          Restricting available public space around the Metros is the business of the government.

  • Parking meters that few people can actually use, unless they have enormous numbers of quarters.
  • Signage that takes viable parking out of use.

Dozens of commuters are left with any option every weekday morning.  The amount of fuel wasted by these poor voters is bad for them, and degrades environment.   The impact on their lives and business appears to be of distant concern to WMATA and the County.

WAMATA and the County both need the revenue.   Monopoly methods are simple business, but this policy does not appear to serve the interests of the people.
