More Revenue for the City

Posted in: Graymoor-Devondale
Why has the city not implemented an occupational tax on the businesses in the City? We would be able to have more money available to the City if we did this. Other small Cities such as J-Town and St. Matthews do this, why couldn't we do it also? Also are we collecting the insurance premiums from the businesses?

Reply: More Revenue for the City

Thank you for your interest in this topic. The City has recently simplified its exisiting Gross Receipts Tax on Businesses to enable prompt collection for ALL businesses in Graymoor Devondale. We have also put together a new business welcome packet for all the new Westport Village Businesses. Included in that packet is a request to code all Insurance Policies to Graymoor Devondale. I have been personally passing out the packets to most of the new businesses and explaining that further.

Once we get a year or two of experience with the revised Gross Receipt Tax and have the revenue from the New Businesses, we will re-evaluate if a separate occupational tax is needed to meet our increased expenses from the new businesses.

thank you
