Once again it seems time to bring up the massive amount of traffic that refuses to obey posted speeds. I appreciate the improved presence of officers both patrolling and radaring.

However it is failing to curb the rash of people speeding around St. Albert and cutting between Westport and Herr lane.

I feel it is time to start looking seriously at speed humps/bumps to bring down this average speed. The negative feedback of slowing down emergency vehicles is garbage, as is the increased difficulty of snow removal. I understand that responding vehicles WILL have to slow over them, but in the big picture it will be a minimal impact. And if snow removal takes a bit longer, I would think the added safety to our residence is well worth it.

What can be done, other suggestions to slow people down?

Amen to that! My husband and I have had this conversation with other residents who have the same concerns about the disregard for the posted speed limit and use streets such as Girard and especially Techny to build speed as they exit the church parking lot. Add that to poor visibility and more young children moving back into the area to make a real recipe for disaster. What will it take to make this happen, an injury accident involving a pedestrian. If it takes signatures on a petition count us in!!!!!

A DOUBLE "AMEN" to that, however I don't think "speed bumps" are the answer because they sometimes cause more trouble than solution, including the already mentioned response vehicle inconvenience and the snow removal issue.

I think that increased patrols and our Graymoor/Devondale Police action is certainly warranted, since the incredible traffic jam created by school traffic drivers seriously blocks traffic between Bedford Lane and Westport during pickup and delivery times. I have narrowly avoided no less than three head-on accidents. I have lived here since 1956 and seen the development of St. Albert's, which was never designed to serve the number of parishoners or students that it handles today. The schoolday pickup/delevery traffic has become nothing short of abominable and is certainly an affront to all property owners between Bedford Lane and Westport Road. Since we have all those nice new Police vehicles it would be nice to see them out on the steets of our subdivision more often.

I am going to have to disagree on a few points there.

Snow removal may be an issue but proper removal equipment should be able to deal with a rolling bump as can emergency vehicles. I have yet to see a study that shows incidents of emergency issues based on speed bumps of any type.

The St Albert traffic can be an issue but the school works hard to deal with the traffic. I do agree that there should be police presence to direct traffic accordingly to avoid issue. Part of the traffic problem comes from people cutting through the side streets to avoid the Westport/Herr intersection. I would think speed bumps would reduce that traffic.

As far as general patrol, I think our police force has done a nice job. They have always been quick to respond and I see them more and more often during the day as well as late nights.
