speed bumps

Posted in: Graymoor-Devondale
I live on Greenlawn Road and have children who love to play outside. Unfortunately, I don't even let them play in the front yard due to the speeding cars. Like many streets in Graymoor, Greenlawn has become a huge cut through street with cars exceeding 40 mph constantly. I would LOVE for the city to consider installing speed bumps on some of our roads. We have a changing demographic in this neighborhood with a lot of families with young children and we must do something more to keep them safe.

NO SPEED BUMPS

Sorry, but speed bumps are not the answer. Speeders seem to focus their attention on the speed bumps and then sprint to the next one. Emergency vehicles are hindered too. Also snow removal is more difficult. Now since we are on the topic of rare events, what about our police force citing these speeders? Do we still HAVE a police force?

Speed Hump Installation

In May, 2005, the Graymoor-Devondale City Council passed an ordinance setting forth procedures for residents or a neighborhood group to request speed humps on eligible streets. A copy of the ordinance can be made available to any resident at their request. The procedure for requesting that the City consider a speed hump on a given street involves submitting petitions from 75% of the property owners in the petition area showing support of the installation of speed humps. This petition form is available at the City Offices, 1500 Lynn Way. If you would like further information, please contact me at 429-0834.
speed bumps

We live on Graymoor and I couldn't agree with you more. 40+ seems to be a consistant speed with several 'habitual' drivers passing thru the area daily. We have 3 small children and have to watch them carefully whenever we're out front. I need to double check with the city council, but I believe there is a formal process that we can follow to at least put the idea up for consideration. If my memory servers me correctly, I believe we must start a petition with those individuals living on our specific street, meaning I couldn't necessarily sign a petition for speed bumps on Greenlawn but I could solicit every household on Graymoor. Not 100% about this; please check with the council for other details.
