What is Community Oriented Policing?

Community Oriented Policing is an effort to bring police and citizens together to prevent crime. Residents and police work together to achieve a common goal...a safer neighborhood. Community Policing involves teamwork and our police depend on us as residents of our community to help them do their job.

What is the Goal of Community Policing?

The goal of Community Oriented Policing is to identify and pursue common goals through problem identification; problem solving; interactivie communications; creating standards to improve the standards of living in our neighborhood.

By fulfilling these goals, we form relationships with our neighbors and local police to facilitate building a strong coalition to affect change.

By forming a a coalition, we can work together to stop crime before it happens and take control over the quality of life in our neighborhood.

What are the Advantages of Community Policing?

We form a better line of communication and understanding that the police are on the same side as we are. We assist the police in deciding their Law Enforcement goals relative to our area. We break the cycle of neighborhood deteriation and fear by taking ownership of our neighborhood. We improve the quality of life, building a sense of neighborhood pride. We get as clearer idea and understanding regarding the problems that the police departments deal with every day.

How can I get involved?

* Get to know your neighbors.

* Work to build a relationship with Northwest Area Command.

* Look for ways that you can help prevent crime.

* Know who to contact when there are problems and show your support to them.

* Join the neighborhood watch.

* Attend community meetings and events to air concerns and agree to solutions.

As a neighborhood, we have the power as a group to take control of the neighborhood, improve the conditions of the neighborhood and reduce crime.
