Street Closures for 10th/Speer/Cherokee Construction

Aug 22, 2000

Construction for the redesigned intersection at 10th Ave., Cherokee St., and Speer Blvd. begins August 14. for about 90 days there will be inconveniences for motorists, but ultimately the new intersection will provide improved safety conditions to the nearby businesses and residents. Cherokee will be closed between Speer and 10th, so cars should detour off Speer at Bannock and return to Cherokee at 11th Avenue or further north. It is possible that local traffic will be admitted onto the 1000 block of Cherokee from 10th Avenue, where parking and pedestrian access will also be allowed. Another possibility is temporary two-way traffic in the 1000 block of Cherokee with access from 11th Avenue. In either case access to any of the businesses or residences in that block will always be reduced to one lane in that vicinity from 8:30am-3:30pm.

The Golden Triangle Neighborhood Association advocated for the funds to accomplish this project through the 1998 Neighborhood Bond Issue. The association also worked with the city on the new design of the intersection to calm traffic on Cherokee.
