One of the Golden Triangle's finite historic treasures is the row of shops and apartments on the northeast corner of Acoma St. and 11th Ave. Developer Brent Synder is now completing a $650,000 renovation of the building, including new windows and restored hardwood floors. The corner space still has the historic Meyer's Drugstore sign visible in the sidewalk tile in front. Three commercial spaces and four apartments remain available for lease. For the second consecutive year, Education Management Corporation (Nasdaq: EDMC), the parent company of The Art Institute of Colorado, was selected as one of the 200 Best Small Companies in America by Forbes Magazine. EDMC, one of the largest providers of proprietary post-secondary education in the United States, is ranked 60th on this years list.

Congratulations to the Golden Triangle Optimist Club, which formally chartered its club on October 26. After a year of planning and recruitment, the group has 27 members, who will take on projects, which serve youth in the community. The Montessori International Children's House (TMICH) is an AMI Montessori school that has been located at 1000 Speer Boulevard since 1994. They are expecting their facility this year to include a new elementary classroom (ages 6-9) as well as a third infant community (14 months - 2.5 years). They currently serve children from two months to nine years old. Applications are now being accepted for all age groups by calling 303-607-9431.

The Denver Public Library's Our Little Library read-aloud program is looking for ordinary men and women to be transformed into storybook heroes and heroines. These volunteers commit to reading to preschool children at local Head Start centers for a half-hour once a week for a fourteen-week session. Training starts in mid-January and the next session runs from January 22 through the end of April 2001. To volunteer or for more information call 720-865-1308.

Congratulations to board member Andrew Moss who recently received the Denver AIA Young Architect Award proven excellence in his professional design career during the first 10 years of his career. Andrew is an officer and president of Semple Brown Design.

The Denver Art Museum now offers free general admission for children ages 12 and under.

Denver Auditor Donald J. Mares has recently published the Citizens Report, a condensed summary of the 200-page Comprehensive Annual Financial Report. This nationally acclaimed report provides an alternate method for citizens to learn about the finances and various agencies, commissions, and other entitles that make up the City and County of Denver.
