The streetlight on Londonderry at the Wensley Drive intersection took weeks to get put back up. Duke said it was due to all the powerline work in the area. The fixture laid on the ground for weeks. It was back up on the new pole and working this am 8/20/26.
There are at least 2 more streetlights on Londonderry between Wensley and Tamworth Drive out. This is in a schoolbus pickup zone. Hopefully Duke Energy will get those repaired shortly. |

If you live in a dark stretch of roadway you can request individual streetlights or make request for the entire street if no street lights. Individual lights are pretty easy to obtain. Normally just the home on either side of the pole and across from it need to sign off on it. On entire streets in need a certain % of residents (Property owners) need to be in favor.
Neighborhood Street LightsResidential streetlights, whether individual or for a whole subdivision, are installed by request within the city limits. CDOT works closely with Duke Energy to create a design for streetlights, whether the request is for an individual light or neighborhood lighting. To start the process, please call the CharMeck Call Center at 311. Once Duke Energy provides a design, CDOT will notify property owners within a defined impact area and allow for a 30-day appeal period. Once the lights are installed, the City of Charlotte will cover the monthly bill to operate them. The City pays when the standard wood pole model is selected. If a neighborhood has existing underground electrical facilities, additional costs may be incurred for trenching, digging, or boring, even when using the standard wood pole option. The City does not cover these additional installation-related costs. If the neighborhood prefers decorative lighting, residents will be responsible for the upfront fixture and installation costs. Decorative lighting currently starts at approximately $1,000 per streetlight, depending on the fixture selected. Once approved and scheduled, installation can take up to 10 weeks. |
