Plant Therapy: Judy Caristi

Just like you, your houseplants enjoy being outdoors. Fresh air, rain and sunshine help to stimulate new growth. If your plants are root bound, now is the time to repot them in containers 1 to 2 inches larger in diameter. Wait until the weather settles down and evening temperatures are consistently in the 50s. Most houseplants are tropical that grow in dappled or indirect light, not full sun. Put saucers under plants to prevent stains on decks or the patio. Empty them regularly so they don't become breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Because plants grow more quickly outdoors than in, you'll need to fertilize and water them more often.

Community Beautification: Lucille Barton

Braintree is putting its best foot forward, and Community Beautification is a goal for everyone in town. From our new mayor, to many local service clubs and groups, we should have the best looking town on the South Shore!
You all know of course, that the Gardeners Guild has been leading the parade for more than 30 years, and it is very rewarding to have all these other forces join us! Our Community Beautification Committee has been hard at work over these many years.
We will start our new season by meeting on May 12th at the home of Lucille Barton at 7:30 PM to plan committee projects, and assignments. I hope to speak personally to all my committee members before that time. If I am unable to reach you, please call and let me know if you will be unable to attend. We will be setting the schedule for weeding assignments this summer, and it is important for me to know when you will be away, and unable to meet your commitment. We all depend on each other for the success of this undertaking. For those of you who have not worked on Community Beautification, and are thinking about joining this committee, you will be rewarded with a great sense of accomplishment, and by meeting a wonderful group of dedicated women.
