Other Safety Committee News

Sep 19, 2000

 With the help of the SAFE Team, the Safety Committee will track through the courts certain priority cases involving crimes committed in Fulton. The group is prepared to explain to the court the impact of these crimes on the neighborhood when any of these cases reach the sentencing stage. The courts need to hear the community?’s voice and to be held accountable for sentencing decisions. Beginning the first week of October, the county court's felony property crimes calendar will be reorganized on a geographic basis. For example, all such cases from the 5th Precinct will be tried on Wednesdays and will be assigned to the same prosecutor, thus making it easier for citizens to keep track of what's happening in the system.
 The Fulton-Lynnhurst Neighbors for Safe Driving task force received a letter of apology and reimbursement of $589 from an 18-year-old Linden Hills man for the theft of campaign lawn signs. The suspect was apprehended thanks to information provided by an alert neighbor and to quick action by SAFE Officer Chris Nichols.
 The CODEFOR crimes reported in Fulton during August included 4 burglaries, 10 incidents of larceny, and 3 vehicle thefts. Detailed information is not yet available.
