About 500 friends and neighbors celebrated TietzeFest at the park on June 11, 2005. We raised over $5,000 for park improvements! The event featured exhibitors, kid?’s activities, food, and entertainment, including a special outdoor showing of the Disney movie ?“Lion King?”. Entertainment was provided by Tangueros de Dallas, Daniel de Cordoba?’s Festival Flamenca, and Ugandan drummers and dancers from the Children of Light troupe. The kids enjoyed face painting by PTA volunteers, mask making and crafts with the Lakewood Arts Academy, and motorcycle demonstrations by Officer Joe Chatham. Whole Foods Corporation donated food and drinks and helped us cook, Skillman Church of Christ held a bake sale and donated use of their popcorn machine and movie equipment.
Our fundraising goal this year is $20,000; which will be used to buy new tables and benches throughout the park. This will allow us to stretch the city funds approved in the 2003 Bond Election to restore our 1930s-era park pavilion, install improved lighting, and make other improvements to implement the Master Plan. The Friends of Tietze Park Foundation. The foundation is is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization, and donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
