The fate of the Park Terrace movie theater has been decided — and should make moviegoers happy.

Expect AMC Park Terrace 6 to open in early 2019 at Park Road Shopping Center.

That ends months of speculation about that site.

Edens said in December that it was pursuing a new entertainment option for that building.

The goal was to bring a complementary, yet elevated, entertainment option to the shopping center, says Lyle Darnall, managing director at Columbia, S.C.-based Edens.

“This has been an active theatre since 1964, and we know the Charlotte community values that history,” Darnall says.

Plans call for the theater to be renovated. That will allow new design and movie-going elements to be incorporated — think AMC Signature recliner seating with six screens.

The project also will preserve the historic nature of the building, Darnall says.

Edens has invested roughly $25 million into Charlotte's Park Road Shopping Center since its 2011 acquisition. Those changes helped refresh the 425,000-square-foot complex, which dates to the 1950s.

It has brought in a number of new retail and restaurant tenants.

Shake Shack opened at the center at the end of last month. Mediterranean chain Cava is slated to join concepts such as Amelie’s Bakery & French Kitchen, Midwood Smokehouse and J.Crew Mercantile.

Edens also owns South End’s Atherton Mill, which is undergoing a $100 million revamp that will bring apartments and additional retail to that site.
