JumpStart Community Safety Grants offer $500 to kickstart community efforts

Non-profits and grassroots organizations can now apply for the City of Charlotte JumpStart Community Safety Micro-Grants. This program is designed to help communities jumpstart efforts around conflict resolution and mediation, crime fighting and prevention, and opportunities for youth and/or parents. Groups can receive up to $500 per project, and will have support and capacity building training available to ensure that these projects will continue into the future.

                    JumpStart Community Safety Micro-Grant

In order to be eligible to receive a grant, groups must serve a public good within City limits, have an annual operating budget of less than $100,000, and have a project connected to one of the JumpStart themes. Grassroots organizations and non-profits must also attend a pre-application session. All projects should be completed by June 30. Gregory Stockes works as a Sign and Marking Technician for Solid Waste Services. In 2006, he was going through a divorce, had no place to live and no money in his pocket. Walking through the Belmont neighborhood, Stockes was ready to give up when he learned about HouseCharlotte, the City’s down payment assistance program. He signed up, attended the workshops, and within two years, had his own house built from the ground up. Learn more about his story and eligibility requirements for HouseCharlotte here.
