Far Northwest Coalition

NOV 2014 FNWC MINUTES

Far Northwest Coalition
Columbus, OH

November 19, 2014

The Far Northwest Coalition (FNWC) met for its regularly scheduled meeting (moved from 11/26/2014) at the Northwest Library on Hard Road. Members present were John Murley, Kelly Thompson, Phil Herren and Rich Herner.

John Ehlers and Rosemarie Lisko of the Northwest Civic Association were on hand to apprise members of the FNWC concerning the City of Columbus’ intention to update its Northwest Plan. The city is looking for 12-15 residents in the area (realistically 10-12 contributing regularly) to meet 4 times in the next year to review and revise the current Northwest Plan. This would encompass outreach to local community groups, as well as attending meetings with the City planners. This would then engender feedback from local neighborhoods. Northwest Civic felt it had several folks who would be willing to participate but did not feel it could come up with the full 12-15 people.

They noted that the City had just completed a new Far North Plan and within the next year hoped to update the plan for this part of town also. This would include updated standards for both design and development, with the anticipation of completing the project by winter 2015.

In looking at the last two plans, the city has changed considerably since that time. New approaches are being taken in other areas of the city, with the intent to apply similar processes in the Northwest area of town.

The anticipated plan is to have 4 meetings and a couple of workshops, with a working group of 10-12 people. These would be folks with some background and would have an interest in helping with the update of the plans for this part of Columbus.

Christine Leed (clleed@columbus.gov) is the primary facilitator at the city. John Ehlers may be contacted with questions and comments at: northwestcivic@gmail.com. FNWC members will discuss the matter with local contacts to gauge interest in participation and meet again on December 17.

There being no further business to come before the FNWC, the meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,

Rich Herner
