FAR NORTHWEST COALITION
P. O. BOX 340285 COLUMBUS, OH 43234

September 26, 2001

The Far Northwest Coalition (FNWC) met for its regularly scheduled meeting at the Northwest Library. Members present of the FNWC Board were John Best, Ann Brodeur, John Murley, Mark Seeger, Mark Gresham & Rich Herner.

John Best opened the meeting at 7:00 p.m. The Minutes from the August 29, 2001 meeting were approved with some format corrections. Ann Brodeur gave the Treasurer's report.

Best proceeded to update the group on some zoning issues which had previously been to the FNWC. The Germain Ford request for a graphics variance was approved by the City graphics commission. The BP station at Sawmill and Sawbury agreed to go with the lighter pearl color on their building instead of the solid green that had been proposed. The Foster Woods development, located at 7140 Linworth Road was recommended for approval by the development commission. Best said that the building locations and buffering had been worked out with the adjacent homeowners.

Peggy McElroy of the Northwest Civic Association made a presentation to the FNWC concerning a rezoning request that is in front of her group, located at 3334 West Case Road. The property is 18.14 acres located at the northeast corner of Riverside Drive and West Case. The request is to remove 4 single family residences and build 144 2-story apartments or condominiums. Of concern is the fact that there would be only one point of ingress and egress for the entire project, on Case Road. The rezoning would go from residential to an AR12, which would allow 8 units per acre. McElroy advised the group that the City has finally agreed to do a traffic study for the project but her concern is that this request would not be in accordance with the Northwest Plan; that land annexed into the City would remain as previously zoned. She also feels the proposed project would strip the area of its scenic character. She suggested that the Northwest Civic Association, as well as the FNWC, forward letters to the City concerning this particular request and convey the group's concern that the Northwest Plan was being ignored.

Best then reported that City Council member Kevin Boyce had cancelled his attendance at the meeting. He also advised the group that Bill Halley had cancelled too, but will resubmit his zoning request in full for 6208 Thompson Street at a later date. The group then held a general discussion on current activity on streets in the local area.

With no further business to come before the FNWC, the meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,

Rich Herner
FNWC Secretary
