Woodmen Update as of 30 June 2009

From Bernie Cerjan: At recent meeting with City Staff, Dan Krueger, URS Staff, Travis Boone and Heather Paddock, we received the following updates on the timeline for the Woodmen Project.
1. 26 Jun 09 ?– All Requests for Proposals (RFPS) were due back to the City from general contractors regarding bidding on this project. Expected 6-9 responses.
2. Jul 09 ?– City Staff will evaluate proposals and by the end of Jul will internally select a Contractor.
3. Aug 09 ?– City Staff and the proposed Contractor will work on any changes required regarding schedule, etc.
4. Early Sep 09 ?– PPRTA will announce the Contractor and ask for approval from all the entities involved ?– City Council, CTAB, CDOT, Federal Highway Administration, etc. After approvals are received, Contracts will be awarded and signed.
5. Mid-Sep 09 ?– Public Meeting to introduce the General Contractor and possibly the subs to the public.
6. Mid-to-late Sep 09 ?– Contractor will start.

All properties needed for this project will be acquired or in process by end of Jun 09. By the end of Jul 09, the Shell Station should be in demolition stage or completed. Soon on-site construction offices will be established, utility movement will be ongoing, and acquired properties cleared. Staging areas for equipment storage and maintenance and materials will be secured. These will be fenced/guarded. They will be on Bell and Woodmen, on Woodmen by the Carl?’s Jr., in the empty Shell lot, and in the Napa lot.

In Jul 09, there will be work on a 12 inch waterline on Woodmen from Sam?’s to Academy. In Jan/Feb 2010, City Staff anticipates work on ?“the big pipe?” (a 42 inch waterline that will be built just west of Olga Wilson Way at the tie-in location at the light into Sam?’s parking lot and further west on Woodmen near Boston Market) will be taking place from the Sam?’s lot through the intersection of Woodmen and Academy. This has potential for major impacts.

Dublin and Academy will have ongoing construction to update/rework the intersection during Jul and Aug.

Progress is being made with negotiations with the owner of the Woodmen Valley Shopping Center and City Staff.

We could all look at this project as inflicting pain and conflict, but it will be much more productive to look beyond the construction stage, take deep breaths during slow traffic movements, and remain positive and accepting of something we can no longer do anything about. Note for Falcon Estates: Yes it is going to happen!!! Yes there is probably nothing we can do about the project. And Yes, we in Falcon Estates (and Columbine) will be getting most of the drive-through-to-avoid-the-intersection traffic on our streets. There may be something we can do about this, but we have to do it now and have to speak with one voice. We need traffic mitigation efforts implemented NOW. These could include Neighborhood signs, more stop signs, speed bumps/humps, closing some streets, Traffic cops, neighborhood groups taking pictures and noting license plate numbers and reporting incidents. BUT we have to get active with the City Staff to get results and we have to do it now. Suggestions and volunteers are welcome. Contact any Board Member (listed on front page).
