The postman said that there are major problems resulting from people putting things in our mailbox other than U.S. mail. Sometimes announcements, etc. get picked up with outgoing mail. Also, several people have had mail stolen. He asked that if we see anyone putting flyers in the boxes to please remind them of the no solicitation sign. This is an opportune time to not only deposit an ad but to withdraw what looks like important mail. My cousin had a car title stolen recently and the title was used as collateral on a loan. Another friend had checks stolen and is still trying to unravel all the problems.
The other day I saw someone going door to door and I reminded them of the no solicitation policy and asked how they got into the neighborhood and if they saw the sign. Perhaps if we all make an effort to say something to people when we see them, it will help.
