I just received the newsletter containing the BoD meeting minutes. I do not understand the logic behind the decision to leave the front gate open during morning rush hour. That is an open invitation to criminals. Why don't we also just post a sign that says come on in, we are at work and no one is home? With the gate open and no traffic flowing through, the ''new curb'' design will not stop anyone from driving in the exit. I understand that the gate does not stop 100% of unwanted traffic, but its design is to discourage unwanted visitors. That is all we can hope for unless we post a guard at the gate.
There also has been much discussion about everyone in Dallas having our gate code number. Is it really a significant cost to change the gate code monthly? If we are looking for the front gate to be what it was intended for, a security gate. It would be worth the investment to reprogram the code throughout the year on a set schedule. For example, we can program multiple codes to be distributed for different occassions. We can have a code that residents use throughout the year for our own personal use, we are not to distribute the number to anyone-this code is reprogrammed every 6 months or every year. We can have another code that is reprogrammed monthly for guests that would only need access for a short period of 1-30 days-repairman, delivery people, guests, realtors, etc.
I can not imagine that it is a significant expense for someone to reprogram the front gate code. In my opinion, keeping the gates closed, reducing the open time on the gate swing cycle to discourage tailgaters and implementing a schedule and procedure for the use and reprogamming of 2 different gatecodes is the least expensive way to maximize the security of our front gate and therefore our community. No security measure is 100%. Leaving the gates open is just ridiculous!
