TXDOT Hwy 281 Update 22 Jan 2002

Report

This is a summary of a TXDOT meeting that was attended by the members of the Encino Park area communities to include Encino Creek Board of Directors. TXDOT presented to a fairly small crowd, I'd say about 100 or so, maybe less, at the Encino Park Community Center.

Purpose: to provide an update to the Encino Park residents as a follow up to the meeting that was conducted about a year or so ago at Reagan HS.

Discussion: Talked about the completion of these first few phases of improvements to hwy 281 in preparation for final end-state phase to be completed in about 5 yrs. Plans for the 281/1604 interchange are drawn but money is not secured yet. Estimated completion date for that project is 15 years. Next real roadwork will begin in about 2 yrs to finish the project from 1604 where freeway ends to Stone Oak Prky area.

Status of work: These modifications are planned now but they are continuously updating the traffic pattern. In other words the location of an access or exit ramp planned today may not be in the final execution.

1) Hwy 281 will have an interchange at Redland and Evans Roads.

2) Encino Rio will simply go into access road; no interchange at this area and no traffic light planned

3) EP sign is actually in the right-of-way and will have to be moved back about 175 feet or more (at EP expense by the way)

4) at end state, it appears that traffic will be equal or less than it is now and that Evans Road will pick up traffic for back areas of EP. This appears to be easiest access in and out.

5) both Redland and Evans will have turn around

6) end-state for quarry entrance will be back where it was
