Bald Eagle

Martin,

We work on many fronts to recover wildlife, working in collaboration with diverse partners to create new opportunities for success. Today, the future for endangered salmon of the Columbia and Snake Rivers in the Pacific Northwest looks a bit more hopeful thanks to Rep. Mike Simpson's (R-Idaho) proposal for the Columbia Basin Fund, a jobs and infrastructure framework to save the region's valuable fisheries and river-dependent communities by restoring a free-flowing lower Snake River. To help translate this bold concept into reality, NWF published an interactive storymap, Salmon Migration: A journey that connects us all, a guide to understanding the many ways Northwest salmon runs have shaped our lives, communities, and the region.

A New Bill Addresses America’s Disproportionate Pollution Problem

A New Bill Addresses America’s Disproportionate Pollution Problem

Pollution, especially from fossil fuel production, drives climate change, contaminates our air and water, and burdens people and wildlife with long-term health impacts. As a new administration and Congress seek to rein in climate change and build back our economy, legislation like the Environmental Justice for All Act can ensure investments in pollution clean-up, infrastructure improvements, and a transition to a clean energy economy are equitable.

Michigan’s Outdoor Recreation Future and Climate Change

Michigan’s Outdoor Recreation Future and Climate Change

Nobody needs to tell Lake Michigan charter fishing boat Captain Denny Grinold that the climate is changing. “Last year I had to cancel 59 trips due to windy days or bad weather,” says Grinold. “Comparing it to 20 or 30 thirty years ago, we’d have maybe had 15 trips canceled.” Indeed, a changing climate is bringing more frequent and violent storm events to the Great Lakes region—and more days when you can’t get on the water at all.

What's The True Cost Of Chocolate?

Easter is the biggest chocolate shopping time of the year, but what's really going into the chocolate we buy? There's more to every delicious bar than just cocoa, palm oil, dairy and sugar: there are hidden costs for wildlife, vulnerable people and the environment. National Wildlife Federation, Be Slavery Free, Green America, INKOTA and Mighty Earth surveyed the world's biggest chocolate companies to assess what they are doing to protect critical wildlife species and humans alike by preventing environmental damage caused by deforestation, eliminating child labor from cocoa supply chains and ensuring farmers make a living income from their work.

We've given each company a score across different categories to ensure that consumers like you can buy Easter chocolate from the heart—protecting species like butterflies, monkeys, pygmy hippos, and elephants in West Africa.
