Should Dues be higher?

Dues are not an option!!!

No, as a matter of fact, I don't live on one of those lake front properties that you feel benefit from the HOA dues.
However, that is irrelevant, and a mute point, because the dues are not an option. When I moved into this neighborhood, I agreed to pay monthly dues as established through the by-laws of the Westlake Homeowner's Association. In addition, the dues go toward paying for the upkeep of the grass along Westlake Blvd.,and, yes, the common area. The entrance off of MacArthur Blvd. is maintained, lit and watered with the dues, along with the other entrances leading into the neighborhoods.
The dues allow the Association to be a part of the Neighborhood Alliance, to receive crime reports and have a liason with the Hefner Division Police Station. Did you come to the meeting in which Sgt. Epperly was speaking about keeping the neighborhood safe? The dues also help provide welcome baskets for new members of the neighborhood. They also help pay for taxes and insurance, and to keep an attorney on retainer,so that he can file liens against the property owners who don't feel like they need to pay the dues, which they agreed to pay when they signed the papers at closing. I understand the disconnect for those people whom live outside of the lake area, but they sure do seem to mention the lake when they go to sell their home.

No to higher dues

We pay 115, Northlake pays 300. Northlake has nice streets, they all mow their lawn, and they don't have people parking in the streets the cars they don't drive. That is what a garage is for!!! We let our homeowners get away with letting their grass grow way too tall, and we have the most horrific looking streets between Rockwell & Macarthur. It doesn't take all the $ we have been paying to keep up the landscaping. We need to fix our streets. People need to be notified if they don't mow their lawns. Something needs to be done with the homeowners who leave their cars parked permanently out in the streets!! If the money we continue to spend was utilized properly, then people would not have a problem paying a little more.

Absolutely NO to Higher Dues

First, participation is minimal at best in our ''HOA''....I'm being generous using the word ''minimal''...more like almost non-existent (and you know it). Therefore, I respectfully but sincerely question the support you will/would have for ANY significant rate hike. Secondly, the amount folks in other neighborhoods pay for their dues is irrelevant. And lastly, you have my most ardent assurance that I will personally lead the charge to defeat not only any attempt at raising these dues, but to go ahead and dissolve the assocation in whole. I have the time, the bylaws, and the will to accomplish this. Most importantly, I think I will have the votes/signatures required.

I look forward to any and all thoughts regarding this......and hope you quote this one in the next Newsletter.
