DMV office on Central to open Aug. 4

Mecklenburg's DMV express office will open at its new location Aug. 4, at Eastway Crossing shopping center. The Midtown Square office closes July 31, said Wayne Hurder, licensing chief for the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles. The new office will be on Central Avenue, just west of Eastway.

An earlier move was delayed a few weeks until the state received confirmation that the new office is asbestos-free.

The express office handles only license renewals and duplicates, address changes and identification cards. Drivers needing road and written tests must go to a full-service office.
