East Braintree Civic Association
Minutes of the Meeting of 14 February 2002
The meeting was called to order at 7:40 P.M. by Chairman Dave Oliva.
The minutes of the meeting of 10 January were read and accepted.
The Peterson Pool Committee is meeting tonight, 14 February 2002. Any members with ideas on the pool should give them to Dave Oliva who will forward them on to the Pool Committee.
Membership Committee: The Committee reported two new members and five renewals. The Committee will be mailing out 800 applications for membership and targeting Precinct Six with these applications. The Committee is planning to have a family event with a bus trip to the Pawtucket Red Sox. The cost of the ticket will be in the range of thirteen dollars. Details will be in the newsletter.
Ann Toland reported that the Watson Park Library Study Committee received proposals from the Braintree Yacht Club and from the Braintree
Rotary for a youth center. Ann encouraged members of the association to communicate their views on the status of the library.
Donna O'Sullivan briefed the Association on the Community Preservation Act which is Question Number Three in the April election.
Selectmen Jim Casey and Lee Dingee said the Town of Braintree is facing a tough financial year. All budgets and town services will be impacted.
Chairman Dave Oliva urged members to submit articles for the association newsletter to Patti Mansfield, Nancy Riley or himself.
Candidates Night is Thursday, 14 March 02 at 7:00 P.M. It will be held at the Braintree Yacht Club. John Dennehy will moderate the Selectmen's debate.
Chairman Dave Oliva named Gerri Hughes, Patti Mansfield, Nita Rica, and Nancy Riley to the scholarship Committee.
Kathy Prioli will be one of the speakers at our April meeting. She will be talking to us about the upcoming "Cancer walk". This walk is to raise money for cancer awareness.
