East Braintree Civic Association

Minutes of September 13, 2001

The meeting was called to order at 7:35 pm by Acting Chairman, John Pelose.

The Treasurer's Report: $2,445.09 in checking account; $2,000 in CD.

The Membership Committee reported progress in increasing the number of members of the civic association. They have already done some "drops" in the neighborhood. The Committee will bring back a plan to the membership to do a mailing in the upcoming months. Also, the membership form needs to be updated.

The "Stop Sign"/Traffic Committee of the Vinedale Road area presented an updated to the membership on the traffic conditions in the area.

The Beach Beautification Committee presented a report of progress noting the recent plantings at Smith Beach.

There was a general discussion concerning the need for more sidewalks in the East Braintree area. Since this is the most densely populated part of Braintree.

Watson Park/Gordon Road neighbors voiced concern over the Braintree National youth League and the impact the league has on the neighbors from April to mid-August. The league needs to be more respectful of our neighbors.

The Watson Park Library Study Committee is being appointed by Town Moderator Joe Powers. It is very important that residents use the library as much as possible when it is open each Thursday from 12-8 pm.

Those present at the meeting voted to contribute $50.00 to Braintree Holidays and $50.00 to the Diana DeVanna Center. These are annual contributions.

John Pelose read a letter from Patricia Smith Pollock. She is the sister of G. Murray Smith, for whom Smith's Beach is named. She noted that she was very happy with the improvements at the beach, including the new sign.
