Minutes of Meeting on April 11, 2002

The meeting was called to order at 7:35 P.M. by Chairman Dave Oliva.

The minutes of the meeting of 14 February 2002 were approved.

Treasurer's Report: $2345.31-----CD
$3063.03-----Regular account

$380 profit was made from the Spring Fling.

The membership voted to donate $25.00 to the Braintree High School All Night Graduation Party.

Kathy Prioli spoke to the Association on behalf of the Braintree Cancer Walk Relay for Life to be held on 14 and 15 June 2002 at Braintree High School. Teams of 8 to 15 people are needed to participate. Each team member needs to be able to collect sponsors. This is intended to be a community building event, bringing the whole community together to fight cancer and provide money for research.

Chairman Dave Oliva moved that $50.00 be donated to support the Relay for Life program in Braintree. The membership approved the motion.

Chairman Oliva also reported that he has eight sponsors for the upcoming walk for the Dianne Devanna Center Walk to be held in Braintree on Saturday, 27 April 02.

Membership Committee: 73 new members. There will be no new mailing until fall.

Beach Party Update: The Committee will be making some T-shirts for members to review for the beach party. There will be organized crafts, a drawing for kids and another for adults. The Committee is looking for donations from area businesses. The date is 13 July 02, starting around noon.

PawSox trip: All seats for the bus trip are sold. There is a waiting list.

Mike Lang briefed the Association on the status of the Greenbush Line.

The Association thanked Jim Casey for his years of service on the Board of Selectmen and especially for his concern for East Braintree.

Selectman Lee Dingee briefed the Association about the upcoming Town Meeting and the very difficult financial situation the Town of Braintree is facing.

Donna O'Sullivan, EBCA representative to the Shipyard Committee, reported on items relating to the shipyard. The most important item was the possible use of the shipyard for the destruction of ships which contain hazardous materials.

Sunshine Committee: If any member knows of a member who is ill or has had a recent loss of a relative, please let Janine Oliva know. She will send a card on behalf of the association.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:20 hrs.
