How noisey Muscatine has become?  Every day I hear cars, trucks and motorcycles roar by our house sounding as if they had no mufflers.  It is apparent that the noise level is above that which the city has set as acceptable but I have not seen, read or heard anyone getting a ticket.  And it could not be good for the driver's hearing, especially for those who are riding motorcycles which sound like tanks.  Boom boxes in cars are another story.  Thow in using cell phones while driving and the situation becomes very dangerous.  And lastly, those who ride motorcyles without wearing helmuts are just asking to leave our world a little early.

I agree with you, LJ.  Another example of this city's selective enforcement.  It only enforces the ordinances it want to when it wants too.  The only time I can remember that noise was an issue was a few years back when bands were playing outside the Muscatine Hotel and the residents of upper Second St complained of the noise.  Then the only reason the city council got involed was because of the noise of the "well-to-do" residents of upper Second St. and not the noise of the bands.  That whole fiasco was a joke.

Their job is to enfore ordinaces that the city council has put on the book.  Whether it be noise, garbage, or illeagal parking.  If they are not going to enforce them, then get those ordinances off the books.  Selevtive enforcement.  It is how this city operates.

I have always found it odd that the city has these ordinances and has cited people for violating them; yet they allow events to happen that involve loud noises under a "permit" from city council.

Can't have beer in city parks but they always allowed GRD and others to have a permit for that. Too bad that if the issue would get pushed, it would just ruin it for everyone.

Noise is a problem..and not just in Muscatine. Seems to be everywhere. My only consulation is that with age, it's harder to hear.

Hey, BB, I think the old age is what makes it worse.  When I was younger it seemed more tolerable, but the older I get the more seems to irratate me.  Ha.  The reason the city allows "permits" for GRD and such is there is money involved.  Isn't that what drives everything?
