Simple ways to welcome spring to your yard:
Spring is right around the corner. For many of us, that triggers thoughts of balmy days spent enjoying our yards. Whether you?’re trying to make friends again with the planting beds you?’ve ignored during winter?’s rainstorms or you?’re thinking about adding some landscaping to rival what your neighbor just did, making a big impact on your landscape doesn?’t have to be a huge ordeal. Here are three tips we?’ve picked up from our Drayton Place/ Kernan Chase neighbors.
Mulch, mulch, mulch. In addition to helping plants by improving moisture retention and eventually decomposing into nutrients plants can use, mulch serves an aesthetic purpose. Have you ever commented on how much fresher and livelier a neighbor?’s landscaping beds look, only to discover that they merely added more mulch? It?’s amazing what a little fresh mulch can do.
Trees and shrubs. Well-placed trees and shrubs enhance your home and help the environment. Interested in adding some bushes but concerned about cost? The 17th Annual Flowering Tree Sale sponsored by local not-for-profit group Greenscape will be held Saturday, February 28 from 7am til noon in Lot E of Alltel Stadium. Get there early ?– neighbors who have attended in the past say the prices are great, but you need to be an early bird to get the best selection. See www.greenscapeofjacksonville.org for more info.
Weed and prune. Even people need regular pruning, and our yards are no different. A little time spent pruning dead branches and pulling up weeds makes a world of difference ?– like a haircut!
See you outside ?– happy spring!
