March is here and so is Creek Week! This year it will be packed with a lot of opportunities for environmental stewardship. This month Creek Week starts March 16^th and ends with our grand finale, Big Spring Clean, on March 23^rd. Calling all Middle and High School students! Join us as we launch our first ever Storm Drain Marking School Match-Up! The matchup will take place April 1^st-30^th, 2024, as groups of students from Mecklenburg County Middle and High Schools help us get closer to meeting our goal of marking every storm drain in Mecklenburg County. For each drain marked, a group will receive a point. The top three groups with the most points will win some awesome prizes such as a Bluetooth speaker, an Eno hammock, or a Stanley Cup! Every now and then we find a stream very much in need of some TLC. Unfortunately, this very small tributary of Toby Creek  at Kemp St was reported to have a lot of trash. If are looking for a challenge and would like to take on this stream site for a cleanup, please email STW-Volunteers@MeckNC.gov. If you are already an Adopt-A-Stream volunteer, this site can count toward your two clean-ups a year!

There are so many ways to help reduce surface water pollution outside of volunteering. One major way is by reporting storm water pollution to 311! If you see a discolored creek, sewer overflow,  or other pollution in or near a water way, please take a photo and report what you have seen to 311. They will send a member of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services to investigate as soon as possible.
