Attempted Dog Poisoning

This is a warning for all dog owners.  On 5/22/08 our new puppy injested part of a piece of meat that she found in our yard.  The meat was covered in a white powder.  About an hour later she was violently ill.

We took her and the meat to the vet and had a battery of tests run.  The results show the white powder was rat/mouse poison.

We discussed the issue with our nearest neighbor and found out their two dogs had been violently ill as well.

This was a deliberate act of a sick and disturbed individual.

If you have dogs please check your yard out carefully before letting your animals out.  We almost lost our puppy and would not want anyone else to suffer the loss of a beloved pet.

This happend in the 600 block of North 40th.

Were the other dogs sickened on the same date?

Do you have a time frame as well?

This might help us to keep an eye out for the jerk who did this.

We experienced this with our last dog who luckily did not die from the poisoning, but has since passed on.

Someone had flipped fried chicken over the fence from the alley 400 block between 39th and n. 40th-our dog was chewing on it and we grabbed it and tossed it. He got sick right away as well. Our vet felt it was poison on the meat.It also happened to a few other dog owners in the same time period and then stopped.

We, and the police suspected at the time it was done by someone who did not like dogs for whatever reason.

Did your neighbors get any official confirmation as you did that their dogs had been poisoned, or perhaps it was just a coincidence?

I know there have been people who have come from outside the neighborhood, prowling around, whom our dog may really bark at and maybe growl at through the fence. I have had people try and hit at ours while he's in our yard. They do not like the fact that he is your best alarm system. We also have people going through our alleys already casing out yards. Eliminate the dogs, which it seems everyone in the neighborhood has one and making it easier for criminals???

This is a teriible thing to happen to a beloved pet.

The neighbors dogs were sickened earlier the same week.  So it is likely that the same individual that threw the poisoned meat into our yard.

I cannot say for certian that their dogs were poisoned as they never found any meat in their yard but they exibited the same symptoms that our dog did.
