Renovation Story (Hurricane Katrina)

Sep 18, 2005

For this edition of the Crestwood Chronicle we are bringing you a different kind of 'renovation story'.

Last Friday (September 02) some Crestwood residents were musing about what could be done to assist the displaced survivors of Hurricane Katrina.

As one Crestwood resident was driving though the neighborhood she noticed how many housing units were for rent. "Why not host a family?" She thought. She called a local landlord who not only lives in Crestwood, but has several rental properties in our neighborhood.

The landlord had a unit available for immediate occupancy and was willing to make a deal on the monthly rent.

Many phone calls and 12 hours later the unit was rented and had utility service. By the next afternoon it was fully furnished, stocked with linens, food, dishes and various necessary items and was waiting for a family. Rent and utilities for six months will be furnished by grass roots organizations.

As with all of our new families this family is welcome in Crestwood and we hope they love their new neighborhood as much as we do. Anyone wishing to contribute to this effort can contact Melodie Garneau at 314-0945.
