Crawfordsville Sanitation Department

The Crawfordsville Sanitation Department is undergoing a major reconstruction process in order to try to cut the cost of trash pickup in our city. The new system will allow trash and recycle to be picked up with one truck and one stop at a residence. Trash and recycle are currently picked up with two different trucks.

The department now employs seven men, after going to the new system, it will employ 5 men with the two extra men being transferred to the Street Department. The department plans to make the change the first of February, which at that time, will require all trash pick up to be placed in front of the home at the street. The new trucks are too large to get through the alleys.

Although it could be as late as March before the new trucks arrive, we feel we need to make the transition from alley to street so the resident will become accustomed to the change.

Starting Monday, February 4, 2002, all trash will be picked up from the street. Trucks will no longer use alleys for trash pickup.

If you need more information, please contact Street Commissioner, Rod Jenkins, at 364-5166 between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
