The 1st Outstanding Let Down (OLD) Awards-2004

The CCBA sadly but necessarily and respectfully announces two Outstanding Let Down (OLD) Award recipients. These individuals and/or groups of people have demonstrated through their actions or inactions a disregard for one or more of our lobbying agenda goals and objectives. And the Oldy or Oldies go to:
· The Three Rivers City Council for flip-flopping on the Felix Longoria Post Office renaming recommendation to their U.S. Congressman Lloyd Doggett. Truly, an Outstanding Let Down to the CCBA which endorsed this renaming and is currently in working partnership with the American GI Forum Archives Foundation to establish the Dr. Hector P. Garcia Historical and Educational Center at the his old medical office on Morgan and Bright Streets. Hopefully, this Oldy may someday become a Newy!!!
· The Corpus Christi City Council for disregarding the Charter Commission recommendation to move the municipal elections from April of odd numbered years to November of even numbered years. Truly, an Outstanding Let Down to the CCBA which endorsed this charter revision proposition to Let The Voters Decide and give us an opportunity to become the All-America Voting City for mayoral and city council elections. Unfortunately, only the two Hispanic members of the Council voted correctly on this issue while All the Councilpersons support the November Elections for Revenue Enhancement Opportunities (bond elections, sales tax proposals, etc.). Hopefully, this Oldy may someday become a Newy!!!
