The book entitled, "Creating Better Family Child Care Jobs: Model Work Standards," covers suggested standards covering the provider's income, benefits, hours of work, and parent provider communication as well as professional development, the work environment, Employer issues, and community support.
The book, "Creating Better Child Care Jobs: Model Work Standards for Teaching Staff in Center-Based Child Care," covers wages, benefits, job descriptions and evaluations; hiring and promotions, termination; suspension, severance and grievance procedures; classroom assignments, hours of work and planning time; communication, team building and staff meetings; decision making and problem solving; professional development; professional support; diversity; health and safety; and the physical setting.
The Model Works Pilot Project began in January of 2000 including three child care centers and three family child care homes. Different facilities were in need of support and improvement in different areas including: providing medical insurance for their staff, developing activity plans, developing job descriptions and employee manuals, reducing total hours worked, increasing paid holidays, and upgrading equipment. The project will come to a completion in October of 2000.
