Hey everyone, Denise again.  The police paid a visit to 411 Waveland.  The outcome was that it's a Zoning issue when someone operates a business out of their home.  In order for us to call Zoning the police have already told us that we will need to provide pictures.  I have as of yet been unable to get pictures of the vans sitting in front of the house and I doubt I will ever be able to get pictures of them moving supplies in and out of the shed out back since I don't even live in that block.  But I will try.  When we obtain proof, we'll call Zoning and proceed with the issue.

I wonder if they needed, or pulled, a permit for the recent work they did on there house, closing in the garage, and filling in the driveway?

They do need a permit for interior alterations to a home.  It appears they had a permit.  They do not need a permit for filling in the driveway, they did not disturb over 5,000 square feet or move more than 100 cubic yards of dirt.

One of the neighbors called the county permit dept to ask about them closing in the garage and building the shed - she was told they had a permit for both. The garage permit was to transform that area into a family room. Interesting to note that during the construction it looked more like they were creating an apartment-like living space in the lower level and soon thereafter many more people were living there and more junk was piled up in the backyard and under the deck. Not to mention the time they skinned, gutted, and cut up a deer in the backyard and hung parts from the tree to cure or dry.

As for finding out if they are all related - the kids speak English so maybe they would spill the beans. Otherwise, if it's a county law requiring a relationship, can't the zoning board or other gov't body just knock on the door and ask them to verify compliance?

As for the paint in the shed, it has been delivered by the truckload - and we're not talking about pick-up sized trucks. Can't say a business is being run out of the house, but supplies are definitely being stored there - and sometimes they bring work home and paint in the backyard.

I'm afraid these neighbors are giving the house on the corner of Rockwell and Lee a run for the money - and driving our property values down at the same time. :-(
