Neighborhood Watch Block Captains Needed

Jun 28, 1999

One of the most important programs offered by the Denver Police Department is the Neighborhood Watch Program. During its almost 30-year history the institution of the watch in a particular neighborhood has resulted in an average drop in crime of nearly 70%. By itself, the distinctive Neighborhood Watch signs posted up and down a block has been hailed as one of the most effective means of alerting potential criminals that their chances of success are not good.
The Cherry Hills Vista Community Association encourages the establishment of Watch programs within its boundaries. The first step is for a resident of each block to volunteer as a block captain. This person will receive a free training session and then work with the police in facilitating organization. The captain will arrange for a meeting at which at least 70% of block residents must indicate a willingness to participate in the Watch program.
Anyone interested in being a block captain, or in helping to form a Neighborhood Watch Program within the boundaries of the Cherry Hills Vista Community Association, should contact either Jeannie Costello (303-756-7682) or George Kress (303-757-6385).
