experience with new heating & AC systems ?

Posted in: Middle Run Crossing

As homes in the area are anywhere from 10 to many years old,  I expect that probably a majority of homes in 19711 have had the central heating & AC systems replaced.

In today's HVAC world,  there are many options,  2 stage A/C compressor,  variable speed blower,  2 stage or continuously variable gas burner settings,  etc.  So many options,  but it's hard to know what options really provide value,  and which add cost but not significant value.  Or worse,  what features can actually be counterproductive for indoor comfort.

If you've replaced all or part of your central heat & air system,  please share your experiences,  with regard to as many factor as you'd like,  at least:  quality and durability of new equipment;   reliability of sales person's claims for various features;  quality of installation;  responsiveness of installation company to any subsequent concerns.

With the current tax credits for heating & air conditioning systems expiring in less sthan 3 months,  I imagine a good number of our neighbors are looking into changes,  and a lot more have made changes in the last 20 months.  Any and all input is welcome !

Thanks

 Bill

We went with Horizon, and we're fairly satisfied.  One aspect that I'm not thrilled with, is the 2 stage air conditioner,  is not actually a 2 speed freon pump,  it's actually a one speed pump,  that bleeds some of the coolant back into the system without pushng it through the house.  To me,  this was a little bit misrepresented,  it was made to sound like the 2 stage coolant pump would save energy, but if anything, I would think it would be an energy waster,  as you're still paying as much to run the pump,  but getting less reult for it.

Other than that,  we're pretty good with the system.  The old A/C could not keep up on a hot day, the new one has no problem keeping up.
