CIC 5/16/02 Meeting Report

A NOTE FROM CIC

The fourth and final meeting of the Continuous Improvement Council (CIC) was held on Thursday, May 16th at Carroll Community College.
A significant portion of this meeting was devoted to discussing and voting on titles of books that the Council will recommend to the Board of Education for adoption. Each of these books was on display at the Resource Center in the Central Office. All Council members had the opportunity to review any of the recommended books. The subject areas were Career and Technology Education, Fine Arts, Guidance, Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies. All the books recommended for adoption were approved.
A mini-presentation on the new Carroll County website (www.carr.org/CCPS) was presented by Darby Ashmore. Every school will have a presence on the website, all content will be accurate and updated, and every department of the Central Office will be represented on the website. Announcements on weather closings and activity cancellations will also be posted.
The final charge of the Council was to evaluate and recommend topics for the upcoming year. Among the topics recommended were: Roles of the Guidance Dept., Middle and High School Testing and the results of the testing, Title I, Hiring qualified and sufficient staff, Academies & Career focus, Health Issues, and several others.
