Center City Neighborhood

Forum Now Open!!!

Posted in: Haughville
I would like to announce that the floor is now open and being overseen to make sure all goes well, or is answer if questions. I am the secretary for the council and I will be trying to do the best I can to keep this site maintained properly, I would appreciate ANY feed back.

I would like to open the floor with a survey question for the community:

What would you like to see the council do, or try to get done to improve Haughville for the year 2006? ( This also would be a time for you to see what you would like HELP with around you/If you do not feel comfortable publishing it PLEASE email me! I will pass it on to the proper people to see it accomplished as soon as possible-IF we can!)

I’m writing as a property owner in the area. My goal is to help reframe the narrative of our neighborhood—not just through design, but through strategic collaboration and community uplift.

Sence moving here, I’ve observed a growing number of Central State residents biking in groups toward the B&O Trail and White River Trail system. Their enthusiasm for outdoor access is inspiring, but the route they take—through poorly lit streets, vacant lots, and high-crime pockets—raises serious concerns about safety and curb appeal. This disconnect between active use and safe infrastructure limits the full potential of our neighborhood.

I believe Haughville is uniquely positioned to lead a revitalization push that:

  • Enhances trail access and visibility near Concord St
  • Improves lighting, signage, and landscaping along key corridors
  • Aligns with the momentum of Central State’s redevelopment
  • Attracts attention from institutions like IU Indianapolis and Purdue.

With IU and Purdue expanding their downtown campuses, there’s a strategic opportunity to engage them in neighborhood partnerships—whether through student housing pilots, design studios, or placemaking initiatives. Our proximity to these institutions is a strength, and with the right infrastructure and narrative,

Haughville a desirable extension of their footprint. Is there anyway to push towards any of these initiatives.

Thank you for your leadership and commitment to Haughville’s future. I look forward to how the community grows moving forward.

Warm regards,

Rick
