Candlelight Neighborhood Association

Message from the President

Mar 16, 2008

By the time you read this message it will be several weeks into the new year of 2008. We are looking forward to what this year will bring for the residents of Candlelight. We have a new Board with fresh new ideas. We have several committees working to improve the appearance, security, health and wellbeing of our neighborhood. We as a neighborhood association exist to bring about good for the residents and for that purpose only. We do not pass laws on our neighbors, as some believe, but work with the existing laws of the metro government to be a better neighborhood.
Let me address some of the concerns that some residents have and clarify the reasons for them.
1. Parking on the streets: This causes problems for other residents, school busses, garbage trucks, and fire trucks that need to get to residents in case of emergency.
2. Parking in the yards: Folks lets face it. It really doesn?’t look good and decreases property values. Metro government laws prohibit you from parking in your yard. It?’s that simple.
3. Dues: Now I know some people don?’t want to pay dues to the association. First let me say it is tax deductible, second, it helps to purchase flowers, shrubs, and trees to brighten up the place. Also, we are trying to get some more new signature entrance signs to identify who we are to people passing through. We would also like to start the process of getting street lights up. These all take money.
The people on the board, who serve you voluntarily, without pay, can?’t do these by themselves. It takes the whole neighborhood. I would like for you to get behind your board members with your finances and come to the general meetings in March, June, September, and December.
4. Your Voice: Lets face it; the squeaky wheel gets the grease. If we have a problem with having our ditches cleaned, abandon properties, theft, drugs, or whatever the problem could be, one person cannot have much of an impact on authorities for help. Whereas our whole community can be one voice, and get it done. Do you know; if the house next to you is abandoned, boarded up for a period of time, your insurance could go up because it is a threat to your property? That is a fact. That is why we are working on your behalf to improve, NOT LEGISLATE, what goes on in your neighborhood. Things get done when people come together with one purpose in mind, Fix It.
As your new president, I will work hard to assist in any way to help solve a problem, whatever it is, and to find ways to improve the appearance, quality, safety, security and unity of our neighborhood..

Have a good 2008
