Cats in Camp Logan

Posted in: Camp Logan Memorial Civic Club

I am a passionate person particularly so when defenseless animals are involved. I am also a logical person, and logic necessitates that I find solutions…. It is not enough that I simply identify and scope problem. I must also identify the risk factors and find mitigations for those risks.

So, I threw a passionate hissy fit, locally, where my passion could be phrased and presented to serve a greater good for the cats and Camp Logan than the situation that provoked the Open Letter. Later that week I saw lights burning in a place where lights were lit the night before earlier ‘Invasion of the Cats’ incidents. Later that week while walking I noticed that a place regularly a cat shelter space had been cleaned up, trimmed, etc., all the things neighbors appreciate when done in their neighborhood.

Sometimes the only exercise I get is jumping to conclusions! But I paced myself…, and observed. Only that. No judgments. In the following days I noticed only cats I’ve seen on walks for months or years. No unfamiliar cats, no immature kittenish cats. I’m good with that.

I have pledged $100.00 to Camp Logan cat friendly campaign to neuter or spay the mother cat and kittens that Sonya Simmons is ‘sponsoring. Thanks to all of you who also agreed to support spaying or neutering of the Sonya Simmons sponsored cats. That will make the mother cat and kittens more adoptable and more contented cats in the bargain.

Plus…, the Houston Humane Society is neutering 700 male cats for free on Feb. 19th! [See the copy and paste below for details] It’s called ‘Fix Felix for Free’. Is that a hoot or what!

Sweetly logical, neutering the male cats. Everyone knows if the male is ‘shooting blanks’, the female will not get pregnant.

So, my Campers, spread the word; and since Felix will be fixed by appointment only, get your Felix cat gut on the appointment list.

Fix Felix for Free

Fix Felix for Free is an annual event at Houston Humane Society. We are neutering 600 male cats for free for the general public. There is a limit of 5 per household. Must have an appointment. You can schedule an appointment by calling 713-433-6421, emailing fixfelix@houstonhumane.org. Find out more info at www.houstonhumane.org.

Cost: Free - The surgery and office visit for Fix Felix is free. Please note: a current rabies vaccination is required by law.  You will need to show proof of a valid rabies certificate or you will be required to purchase the vaccine at the time of surgery. HHS is offering a special discounted rate of $5 for the Fix Felix event (includes rabies tag and certificate). Additional *optional* services offered at the time of surgery include: Feline Leukemia vaccine - $20; FVRCP - $15; pain medication (3 day oral regimen - $8 or injection at the time of surgery (lasts 24 hours) - $10.  For the health and safety of all cats, as well as our staff, each feline must be in a plastic crate/carrier. Due to the large volume of clients we will serve that day, we cannot accept patients in any other type of carrier or confinement.  Please plan ahead accordingly. If you do not have a plastic crate/carrier you may purchase one at the door for $10. Feral cats may be brought in an official humane cat trap.
