Frequent Code Violations

CODE COMPLIANCE
I know that when I moved into the neighborhood I did not know what the codes were until I found out that my tree limbs were too low. To help new residents and those that might be confused I have taken information from the City of San Antonio's Code Compliance pamphlet. To receive this information or to ask questions call 207-7230 or visit www.ci.sat.tx.us/codecomp/

Frequent Code Violations
Junked Motor Vehicles-Any inoperable vehicle without a current safety inspection sticker or current license plate can be considered a junked motor vehicle. A $2,000 per day fine can be imposed on owners of junked motor vehicles and/or the vehicle could be towed and destroyed. Front yard parking is not allowed. Parking on the front grass area will result in a citation.
Obstructions on City Property or Right-of-Way-Pedestrian and vehicular right-of-way must be kept free of any obstructions. For example, structures, overhanging tree limbs, basketball goals, fences and shrubbery are prohibited when on City owned or City controlled rights of way. There are special regulations that apply at street intersections.
Unsanitary Premises-All of us are responsible for keeping our property clear of trash, debris, and overgrown vegetation. If your home is served by an alley, you are responsible for its maintenance from the middle of the alley to the front street.
Animals-There are restrictions to the number of animals that may be kept on private property. For example, no more than five dogs and three cats may be kept in a residential district. Don't forget to keep your animal on a leash and collect and dispose properly of any droppings. The city requires that you carry and use something to clean up after your pet.
Noise-The Noise Ordinance regulates the allowable noise decibel level according to zoning districts and time of day. Violation levels range from an excess of 63 decibels in residential zoning to 85 decibels in the Entertainment zoned districts. Maximum fine for noise violations is $2,000.
Garage Sales-A permit must be obtained and displayed at all garage sale activities. Garage sales are limited to two a year; other restrictions may apply.
Other-Tree limbs are not to hang below fourteen feet above the surface be it street, sidewalk, alley and easement. Sidewalks & streets should not be blocked by things such as: basketball baskets & vehicles. Sidewalks are for public access therefore a vehicle obscuring a sidewalk is the responsibility of the resident. If someone gets hurt because of having to walk around a vehicle or obstruction, they may become liable. Lawns and alleyways must be kept up; lawns must be trimmed to less than 12 inches.
You can anonymously report a violation to the city by calling 207-7230

What is the Code Compliance Committee

This committee works under guidelines from the City Code Compliance Dept.; the purpose is to notify residents of a problem BEFORE the city cites the resident.
