“Over 200 years ago the ancestors of today's Cairn Terrier earned their keep as working terriers, routing vermin from the rock piles -- called cairns -- found on Scottish farmland and by the sea. Cairns are courageous, tenacious, and intelligent -- with a sturdy body and a weather-proof coat. Today’s Cairn Terrier remains a sensible, confident, agile and hardy little dog, independent but friendly with everyone he meets."
