A poll of likely voters in Colorado's 2nd Congressional District found broad support for the Hidden Gems Wilderness Proposal.

Hidden Gems has the support 65 percent of voters across the 2nd Congressional District. Among those living in Eagle and Summit counties where wilderness is proposed, 58 percent of voters support Hidden Gems.

"This poll confirms that a large number of residents in Eagle and Summit counties and throughout Colorado support the protection of our most treasured landscapes with wilderness designation," says Pete Kolbenschlag, director of the Hidden Gems Campaign.

Other findings of the poll include:

 - A wide plurality of voters in Eagle and Summit counties  (34%)  said they "strongly favor" Hidden Gems.

 - Support for Hidden Gems outstrips opposition by a margin of more than 2-1 through out the congressional district and nearly 2-1 in Summit and Eagle Counties.

 - Support was widespread among people whose recreational activities are directly affected by wilderness designation:

• 63 percent of people polled who use mountain bikes support Hidden Gems;
• 62 percent who fish support Hidden Gems;
• 51 percent of those who use off-road vehicles say they support Hidden Gems.

"This survey shows that support for the Hidden Gems proposal is as wide as it is deep," said Kevin Ingham of RBI Strategies and Research, the firm that conducted the poll. "Not only do voters favor it by a margin of better than 2-to-1 but support for the proposal is high across many demographics including political affiliation, age and geography."   Click here for the RBI report of the poll.

The telephone survey, conducted by RBI Strategies and Research, interviewed 500 voters in Colorado's Second Congressional District who are likely to participate in the 2010 General Election. The polling also interviewed an additional 150 voters in Eagle and Summit Counties in order to gauge support specifically in the Hidden Gems area.
