Composting Workshop in March

Buckman?’s Sustainability Committee Hosts First Event

The Buckman Sustainability Committee is partnering with Portland State University students and Southeast Uplift to take the first steps towards creating a more sustainable neighborhood. We are looking at ways to organize neighbors around the central themes of sustainability, as well as brainstorming projects for the future. Our first idea is starting a community composting program. To help us further this idea, we are in the process of applying for the Vision Into Action Grant which is funded by the City of Portland. We would like to invite you to our first informational gathering.
On Saturday March 7th from 2-4pm at Hinson Church, we will host a workshop on the fundamentals of composting through a Permaculture perspective. Come and learn all you need to know including: the ecology of a compost pile, different systems appropriate for various contexts, and trouble-shooting. Be prepared for a fun and informative session where you’ll learn how to turn potential “wastes” into a fantastic resource. Workshop will be taught by Mike Thayer, permaculture teacher and owner of Ammonite Design Ecological Services. Please RSVP by leaving your name and contact information with SE Uplift: 503-232-0010 or the googlegroup below.
Are you interested in becoming involved in sustainability planning for Buckman? Do you have ideas you would like to share with us about enhancing the livability in your neighborhood? Please contact us at buckman-sustainability@googlegroups.com. We are looking forward to hearing from you!
