Vacant homes and mowing in Buck Creek Village Community.

Posted in: Buck Creek Village

Some homeowners have recently voiced concern about vacant or foreclosed homes within the community and the status of their lawn mowing.  Some homeowners have even communicated that they have been mowing the vacant homes lawns to keep them looking neat and tidy as they are adjacent to their properties.

While this is a kind gesture on the part of many homeowners.  There are a couple things that individual homeowners can do to relieve the pressure of mowing these vacant homes.  First, look for papers posted on the doors or windows of these vacant homes.  Generally, there is a number listed that individuals can call to report problems with the home structure or property surrounding the home.  This can be used to request that the "owners or government agency that owns the home" come out and mow the property.

Also, individual homeowners can contact the Mayors Action Center to request that the City of Indianapolis come out and mow the property.  This can be done by calling them or visiting the link on the indy.gov website and making a request that the homes lawn be mowed.  When this happen the city comes out and mows the yard and charges the fee for mowing the yard to the company or homeowner that owns the property.  And, the city will charge that homeowner for the service and return weekly until the homeowner calls and tells the city that they are ready to reassume their responsibilities in mowing their yard.

So, while many homeowners efforts are just and "above the call of duty" in mowing vacant properties yards.  You might want to exercise the above options next time when properties lawns begin to become unsightly. :-)
