Guest Talk-Peter Beaven
Peter Bevin attended our meting on an invite from Jim Schatz. Peter discussed high-speed internet access, T-1 lines, etc. There are a few areas in Brooksville with high-speed access and there was interest from the group about how to make this happen in more locations (the store, other public areas, etc.). This is exciting news for the town and there will be more discussion later. Peter gave us some information that Jane will xerox and bring to the next meeting for people incase they did not get a copy. Many thanks to Peter for his wonderful presentation!

What was discussed at this meeting?
Communication Group
• Group discussed 3 ways of communicating to the Brooksville community:
• Newsletter
o What’s going on in town?
o Put out on quarterly basis starting in April.
o Questions around newsletter-What is the cost of publishing (copies and postage)?
• Kiosks/Bulletin Boards
o Signage of where people walk, drive, meet in town-VISIBLE
o Include things going on for all ages and groups
o Questions around kiosks/bulletin boards-What type of signage is best? Who will build it? What is the cost?
• Website
o Calendar of what is going on in town.
o Information about the town for all residents near and from away.
o Questions around website-Need to research how to use? How to make it user friendly for those with and without high speed access? Cost?

Recreation & Health Group
• Groups discussed how to get some information out to the Brooksville community about activities going on in the month of November for all ages and groups.
o Create maps of trails (public and private-need agreements from private owners-longer project that needs some careful planning)
o Groups that meet to knitting, quilt, discussion groups-Where does this happen and how to get this information tom all?
• Winter activities to stay healthy and fit.
o Where do folks go to…ice skate, snowshoe, walk indoors, etc?
o Winter Fishing Derby-Getting this information out to all.
o How to utilize the new spaces at the school for physical activity-need to have a conversation with school folks about this?
• Put information on a map of the town so that people can see what is going on at a glance.
• Eventually hook this map up with the newsletter so that it is coordinated in the information.
• Questions from the group?-The group is very big and so is there a need to break into smaller groups so that there are a few committees working on some of the work rather than everyone working on the same thing.

Next Steps
 BE SURE TO INVITE FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS TO MEETINGS!

 GET THE WORD OUT THAT BROOKSVILLE FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS IS A COOL AND EXCITING GROUP!

 LET’S CREATE A GREAT EVENT/CONTEST IN WINTER FOR BROOKSVILLE THAT DOESN’T EXIST…SNOW OR ICE SCULPTURES…AN EVENT FOR ALL AGES !

Action Steps/Homework

• Pat True will work on posting a flyer around town about the next meeting. It would be great if she had some help on this. Call Pat to help out!
• All decided that it would be nice to have a guest speaker at each meeting. The December meeting will try and have the librarian come to the meeting. Ideas for speakers for future meetings include Jim Fisher from the HCPC, someone from the Conservation Trust of Brooksville, Penobscot, and Castine, a talk about a health topic, etc.

Guest Talk-None for this month

What was discussed at this meeting?
The group decided to meet as a whole instead of breaking into 2 groups as there was a lot of information for new members and some others who were on committees last time were ill or out of town.

Since there were a few new members, Joan gave a good overview of BF&N for new folks and for all. She gave such a good opening statement for the group, that she was asked to write it up for future communications.

Next Steps
Committees will try to meet a few times before the next meeting which will be on Wednesday, February 7th. The group thought that in order for some of the initiatives to move forward people need to meet in between meetings.

Committees Formed at Meeting (This group is meant to be inclusive of anyone
from the community who has an interest in any of the topics listed below.)

• CoCo, and Jean will meet on 12/18 at 1:30 about making a bulletin board for the Bucks Harbor Market regarding BF&N.
• Jane will send out notes to those who requested it by mail and also to those who are new to the group and would like copies of notes from past meetings.
• Bob, Tony, and Gerry will work together to look into creating a sustainable garden to have more locally grown foods available for the community.
• Joan, Peter, Bec, Doug, and Judy will talk and possibly meet regarding the newsletter for Brooksville. Joan has several newsletter samples to share with the committee.
