Brookside Woods Civic Association

Presidents Report

Feb 02, 2003

I hope everyone is enjoying this season of fall colors. I am proud to announce that the Brookside Woods Civic Association is thriving! We have a full slate of volunteer officers that are looking forward to taking their turn in keeping Brookside Woods a safe and beautiful place to live.

I want to thank all the previous Board Officers and Volunteers who have served our neighborhood so well, since 1980. In looking back through the boxes of files at what our civic association has accomplished, I find there is a gap in some of our records. I would appreciate receiving old Woods?’ Lores, Meeting Minutes, etc. for our archives. Electronic copies of this information are also appreciated.

It is my intention this year to focus our efforts on improving:

1) the safety of our neighborhood through additional traffic signs, speed awareness programs, additional lighting, improved sidewalks, and tree pruning.

2) the appearance or our Oakfair/Maplebrook Park through tree management, sidewalk repair, irrigation system repair, and a new landscape plan.

3) the usefulness of our Brookside Woods City Park through the creation of a Neighborhood Committee and direct communication with the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department.

4) the communication within our neighborhood, with regular publication of the Woods?’ Lore and the creation of a neighborhood web site. Special thanks to Denise Badgley for her work in publishing our new neighborhood directory.

5) the percentage of neighbors who join the Brookside Woods Civic Association. We historically have 80% participation, or 240 out of the 299 families contributing the $50.00 dues and thus joining the ranks of active members. You will notice in our Treasurer?’s report a high percentage of civic association members have also contributed to our Capital fund. Thanks very much for those that have paid your dues this year.

This years Board of Officers are hoping to earn 90% participation - 270 families. Your civic association dues represent 0.021% of the average property value ($50/$240,000). The typical budget of our civic association is $12,000 per year. This money helps protect over $71,760,000 in assets (299 homes @ $240,000). Our dues are less than 1.5% of a typical annual property tax bill ($50/$3500). We help bring city services, that our tax dollars support, to Brookside Woods. Join your civic association and help keep your property value high!
