Town of Braintree

Debt Exclusion= Deficit Spending

Posted in: Braintree
Simple, those who want an debt exclusion are the same that granted the teachers salary increases beyond what the towns budget can afford. Braintree is a microcosism of Beacon Hill; tax and spend. A debt exclusion is nothing more than deficit spending. Stop the unions from eating us out of house and home. Look at how the pension fund is being stretched and it's getting worse. Union of town employees are getting sweetheart dealings. Just look at what the cost of the Quinn bill is. Say no to the debt exclusion until we stop all the union cosntract give aways. That is much of the fiscal mismanagement. We am in no way wealthy but we sent our chidren to private schools. I am sick to death hearing it for the children. NO, no, no to any debt exclusion.
Just like

when you take out a mortgage to buy your house. Just like taking out a loan to put on a new roof, replace your furnace, or buy a new car. There aren't many of us that have enough cash on hand to pay for all the big expenses that come our way.

Second the dept exclusion cannot be used for raises,to cover the cost of the Quinn bill or anything else not stated on the ballot.
Nonsense

A debt exclusion is more like refinancing to improve your cash flow for other things that need to be done and has a payment program that ends after ten years. We listened to the NONONO gang for over twenty years and look what is has gotten us? We recently completed a 7 million dollar road bond project and look at the progress that we have made. This progress needs to continue and the debt exclusion allows for that.

The BOS accepted the trash fee to save school jobs but look what good that did. I don't mind that they told us what would happen if the overrides failed but we now have an opportunity to get more for our money.

The school committee entered into a bad contract, but the BOS has no say in that matter. The raise money will come out of the school budget whih means layoffs, but so be it.

By refinancing the existing debt and allowing for additional borrowing, there will be money available, that is currently used for debt payments, to be used for trash collection. This isn't tax and spend or shallow, it makes good financial sense.

Regardless

of how you feel about paying more taxes, it makes sense to vote for the dept exclusion. First, the trash fee is eliminated. Second, you can deduct the debt exclusion on your fed taxes, sure it is not much but it would buy me a few cups of coffee. I'll take it where I can get it. Third, we end up with some much needed improvements to our roads and buildings. To be honest, I would be more in favor of the debt exclusion if it only had money allocated for the roads, but I'll vote yes anyway. Fourth, they cannot spend this money on anything except what we vote on. Fifth, this money is not freeing up other money to be used to pay teacher raises, it is bringing new money to the town to perform capital improvements. And it is a wash for the taxpayers, we won't see much if any increase in what we pay the town. There will be no money available to do roads without this bill.
